How much of a time commitment is SAJO?

Practices are generally 1-½ hours twice a week and there are about two tournaments per month.  Tournaments usually last the good part of a day.

How long is the season?

The season length will vary slightly for each team, but all teams will start practice in early January and end late April to early May.

When are tryouts?

Tryouts will be held in mid-late November.  All of the SAJO tryout information will be posted on our website by mid-October of that year.  We have to wait on the district to approve our date/time/location of tryouts, otherwise we would have that information sooner.

Where are practices and  tournaments?

The practices will be held primarily in Stillwater Area school gyms, as well as at other local sites.

The tournaments will usually be located in the Twins Cities metro area.  There is a possible overnight trip to a tournament once per season.

Does SAJO allow non-Stillwater players to tryout?

Yes, we welcome all players to tryouts.  However, if our teams are at maximum capacity and we have more players than spaces on teams, we will give preference to Stillwater Area players.  We are forced to do this based on limited gym availability and qualified coaches.

How is playing time determined?

At the 12’s and 13’s levels, our focus is player development.  Each player will be given equal time to develop in practices.  In tournaments and playdays the playing time will not be equal however the coaches will allow each player court time during the event.  At the 14’s, 15’s, 16’s, 17’s,  and 18’s levels, playtime will be determined by each individual coach.  SAJO works hard to find and train our coaches and we trust their decisions.

Note:  The above information is dependent on how many girls tryout, as well as the preferences of the individual coaches.

General Questions:

I am interested in coaching my daughter, how can I get involved?

It is our club policy that parents will not be the head coach of their daughter’s team.  There are some exceptions at the younger levels, however, we try to place at east one parent/non-parent assistant coach with each team.  Feel free to send us a short email with your information, experience in coaching/playing, and a few sentences about why you’d like to become involved with SAJO.
